There once lived a lad who was deeply in love with a girl, but disliked by the girl's father, who didn't want to see any further development of their love. The lad was eager to write to the girl, yet he was quite sure that the father would read it first. well, even liveover show scientific inverstigation for us about how bad woemn are, we still wanna say "男人真可爱". 男人真可爱 大家知道「白马王子」该怎么讲吗? 知道「男人中的男人」又该怎么讲吗? 1. you are so sweet. 你真的好温柔体贴喔. sweet 是一个用途很广的形容词, 只要有人作了什么会令人感动, 令人觉得心里有甜甜的那种感觉, 我们都可以用 sweet 来形容. 例如我说我昨天带女朋友去看星星, 这种事就可以说, "that's so sweet." 当然你也可以说这是很浪漫的, "that's so romantic." 但是通常老美讲, "that's so sweet." 的机会比较多啦! 另外形容一个人很 sweet 的话则是说这个人很温柔体贴. 温柔体贴英文里还可以说成 considerate 或是 caring, 不过就像我上面提到的, sweet 才是比较普遍的用法, 讲 considerate 或是是 caring 听来有点太正式了. 所以下次如果各位女性朋友遇到哪位男士让你心里觉得很温馨的话, 就不妨称赞他, "you are so sweet." 2. he is so cute. 他很可爱. 记得以前总觉得称赞男人就是要用 handsome, 称赞可爱的美眉才用 cute. 但后来我发现这是一个很大的误会喔! 事实上美国的女人在称赞男人时用的多半也是 "he is so cute." 甚至你也可以说, "he is gorgeous." 但反而比较少说, "he is so handsome." 实例之一就是有一集的 friends (六人行) 当中 rachel 看到一个很帅的男生, 她是怎么形容她的呢? "he is way too cute to be straight." (他实在太可爱了, 所以他一定不会是异性恋.) 我觉得这句话本身对男生实在是一种至高无尚的赞美. 所以女生不妨把 "he is way too cute to be straight." 这句话给背下来, 等将来遇到喜欢的男生时就可以派上用场. 3. he is adorable. 他很可爱. adorable 这个字和 cute 都是形容一个人很「可爱」, 但 cute 有「俏皮」的含意在内, 而 adorable 则是表现出一种令人强烈喜欢的可爱, 所以虽然我们也可以拿 adorable 来形容一个男生长得很好看, 但使用上要小心点, 在美国男生公开称赞男生 adorable 是件很奇怪的事情, 唯一的可能就是这个人是同性恋. 所以在美国请勿随便称赞同性 adorable , 连称赞别人的男朋友都不行喔! 附带一提就是 adorable 其实最常用在形容小孩子, "your baby is so adorable." (你的婴儿真可爱), 或是形容宠物, "i like your kitten because it is so adorable." (我喜欢你的小喵咪因为它好可爱). 但形容人的话就仅限于对异性吧! 另外我想跟大家介绍一个很有用的讲法「装可爱」, 这句话在英文里叫 act adorable 或是 act cute. 例如, "i tried to act adorable to get all i wanted." (我试著装可爱来得到我所想要的东西.) 或是, "he knows how to act cute to get her heart." (他知道如何去装可爱来博取她的欢心.) 4. a mamma's boy is not my type. 乖乖牌不是我喜欢的类型. mamma's boy 指的就是那种乖乖的男生, 凡事都听爸妈的话. 例如哪天男朋友告诉你他必须早点回家帮妈妈作家事, 你就讽刺说, "don't tell me you are a mamma's boy." (不要告诉我你是乖小孩喔.) 另外相对于 mamma's boy 则是 daddy's girl, 指的则是乖乖女, 不会在外面随便交男朋友, 每天一定十点前回家那种. 提醒各位读者这个 mamma's boy 和 daddy's girl 都是固定用法, 所以你不会听到老美说, mamma's girl 或是 daddy's boy. 不过这个 mamma's boy 事实上是明褒暗贬啦, 表面上说你很听父母的话, 但事实上是说你凡事都唯父母是从. 所以如果你是真的要称赞人家是乖小孩的话, 则最好是用 good boy. 例如你叫他手安份一点, 他就真的不乱碰了, 这时你就可以称赞他, "you are a good boy." 5. technically speaking, he is not my prince charming. 理论上来说, 他还不是我的白马王子. 记得有一次帮老美同学带他三岁大的小孩, 我试著讲白雪公主的故事给她听, 但是我发现十分困难, 因为许多专有名词例如白雪公主 (snow white), 白马王子 (prince charming), 七个小?人 (seven dwarfs) 我都不会讲. 后来我讲到了, "mirror, mirror, who is the most beautiful woman in the world." 这时她再也忍不住了, 纠正我说, 这句应该是, "mirror mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?" (魔镜魔镜谁是世界上最美丽的女人?) 真是应验了人家说的, 还不如三岁娃儿. 后来她又告诉我, "my mom told me that prince charming would just come and sweep me off my feet." (我妈妈告诉我有一天白马王子会出现, 并且令我倾倒. ) 这句话让我有点啼笑皆非. 原来美国人的家庭教育也是教小女生去作梦, 怪不得长大后女生都这么难追? 或许我妈妈也该教我, "you would wake up one day finding your snow white is right next to you." (有一天你会一觉醒来发现你的白雪公主就在你身边.) 如果每个妈妈都这么教他的小男生, 那么大概就不会有男生想要去追女生了吧? 6. i had a feeling that he is the mr. right i was looking for. 我有一种感觉他就是我要找的那个男人. mr. right 是个很普遍且很受欢迎的用法, 指的就是那位可以托付终身的男人. 当然了, 有 mr. right 自然也有 mr. wrong (我记得顺子的专辑里好像有一首歌就叫 mr. wrong). 故名思意 mr. wrong 指的就是无缘的男人或是指弃你而去的负心汉, 但是 mr. wrong 这样子的用法似乎不太常见就是了. 此外我能想到的除了 mr. right 之外, 老美常用的还有 mr. perfect (完美先生). 例如老美常说, "he is perfect for you." (他非常适合你), 同样的我们也可以这么说, "he is your mr. perfect." 7. you got to admit you are whipped. 你必须承认你很听话. whip 这个字的原意是指拿鞭子抽打, 但当人家说 "i am whipped." 这句话时通常指的不是我被鞭子打了, 而是说「我很听女(男)朋友的话」, 或是更传神一点「被另一半管得死死的」. 例如有些女生会不准她男朋友跟以前的朋友在一起, 还有不管何时何地她都要男朋友陪他, 如果男生也乖乖地听话了, 这时我们就说他, "he is whipped." 还有什么样的人可以称得上 whipped 呢? 以下是一些经验法则 1. "if one calls his girlfriend right after getting out of a movie to tell her how it is, then he is whipped." (如果有人一出电影院就打电话给女友的话, 他就是很听话) 2. "if one brags about what his girlfriend does to him all the time then he is whipped and too embarrassed to admit it." (如果有人老是提女朋友为他作了些什么, 他不但很听话, 而且还不敢承认) 3. "if one swears to a girl then he wants to be whipped." (如果有人跟女生发誓的话, 他就是想变得听话.) 4. "if one never hangs out with his friends because he is too tied up with his girlfriend then he is whipped." (如果有人因为跟女朋友活动排得太满而没时间跟朋友出去的话, 他就是很听话. 5. "if one has a girlfriend smarter than him such that he can't play mind games so he is whipped." (如果女朋友比他聪明的话, 他就没法跟她斗智所以只好听话一点. 8. he is fine. 他很棒. 很多人可能会误会 "he is fine." 指的是他「还过得去的意思」. 其实不是的. 当你说一个人, "he is fine." 时指的是这个人「很好、非常棒」的意思, 程度上相当于是, "he is awesome.". 所以这个 fine 跟平常我们打招呼时应付式地回答, "i am fine." 的那个 fine 程度上有很大的区别. 另外老美在口语上也会讲, "he is fly." (这里可不是我打错了, 老美真的是用 is + fly), 指的也是一个人非常棒的意思. 所以如果我们要形容一个令人心动的男生, 你有许多选择, 你可以说, "he is fine." "he is awesome." 或是 "he is fly." 都可以. 9. he is one of the kind. 他是独一无二的. one of the kind 是一句成语, 形容某个人或某样东西是独一无二的. 所以当你说, "he is one of the kind." 时, 就表示说这个人在你心中有著很特别的地位, 是别人所无法取代的. 但有时候我们也可以用 one of the kind 来耍耍嘴皮子. 例如人家生气地问你, "what kind of gentleman are you?" (你算是什么样的绅士?) 这时你就可以接 "one of the kind." (独一无二的), 接得很不错吧? 这句话的灵感我是看电影 (shrek) 时学到的. 公主问 shrek, "what kind of knight are you?" (你这样算是什么武士), 他就接道, "one of the kind." 此外有一次 friends (六人行) 中讲到 phoebe 不喜欢工厂大量生产的家俱, 因为那不是 one of the kind. rachel 觉得很奇怪, 为什么她只喜欢 one of the kind 的东西. ross 的解释很有道理, 他说因为 phoebe 本身是双胞胎 (twins), 所以她就不能算是独一无二的 (one of the kind), 也就造成了她盲目崇拜 one of the kind 的心态了. 10. he is an alpha male. 他是男人中的男人. alpha male 这个用法我是去看了杜立德怪医 2 (dr. dolittle 2) 后才学到的. 指的是一群动物中最有权势, 居于领导地位的雄性. 如果把它用在人类, 我们不妨把它解释成是 「男人中男人」(man of all men), 同时也可以指那种很有男子气概 (macho) , 在男女关系中居支配者角色的男人. 所以有时候可以在女生的徵友广告里看到, "alpha male wanted" 这个就是说她想要的是一个男人中的男人。 |
